Carl Scarborough came to the practice of law via a unique path.  Beginning as a volunteer firefighter over thirty years ago, Carl moved into the ranks of full-time firefighting with the Central Jackson County Fire District, where over the next 23+ years he worked his way through the ranks, ultimately becoming an Assistant Chief over the Training Division. In 2016, he left CJCFPD to take the helm as Fire Chief with the Sni Valley Fire District. Chief Scarborough retired from the active fire service in 2020.

While working full-time as a captain with CJCFPD Carl decided to pursue a lifelong goal and entered law school.  In 2012 he graduated, having obtained the Dean’s List multiple times while continuing to work full time throughout. This non-traditional path and background give Carl a unique perspective and “service first” mentality.  Honed by his decades in the fire service, his problem solving and service first mentality form the cornerstones of his practice.  Carl has been in private practice since 2013.

Carl Scarborough is the author of the Firehouse Legal blog, as well authoring articles on industry related  topics for trade magazines and providing presentations for conferences and Fire/EMS service seminars and events. In addition, Carl provides custom department-level training and consultation on a range of non-legal administrative and leadership topics.
